It is very common for Japanese children to learn origami at kindergarten age, starting with simple figures, and moving on to the more complex as they improve their skills. A person who is skilled at origami can make a crane in just a few short minutes, and a kabuto (helmet) in as little as 30 seconds.
Odila Morel galleries, April 10th , 2018. The art of making paper from pulp originated in China in the year 102A.D. Paper then became more available to the masses. The secret of making paper was kept in China for several hundred years and finally made its way through Korea and into Japan. A Buddhist monk is said to have carried this secret .The introduction of paper making to Japan several hundred years later coincided with the development of their religion and soon became part of the lives of its people. Colors and silk threads were added and origami was held in high esteem. Gifts were decorated with "noshi". Noshi had particular fold patterns depending on the gift.

Georgitte Georgitte step by step, April 17th , 2018. First Graders: it is most effective to teach in small groups of 4 or 5 children. You can teach the entire class at the same time, but you must be flexible and understand that some kids will not follow instructions and end up with their own creations. Again, choose easy models first, and if the class is receptive to this art form, then progress to harder models.

Before you begin, it is great to stock up one some lovely Origami Paper or colourful paper pads (not construction paper, but paper that also fits into printers, it is lighter and better for folding)! We like to use a mixture of plain colours and pattern paper. You can get them quickly and easy online!!!
